About this reconstruction

Inner courts measured from Mishnah Middos (Rambam's reading where opinions differ), at an amah of 52.5 cm. The Herodian platform, gates and Royal Stoa follow the archaeology and Josephus. The Kodesh HaKodashim stands on the Even Shesiyah, as in Ritmeyer's reconstruction. Sounds are generated reconstructions. The moment is Wednesday 17 Tishrei 3794 (30 September 33 CE; the calendar was then set by witnesses, so it may be a day off), the third day of Sukkos, at about 9:00 in the morning, two and a half hours after sunrise, under the prefect Pontius Pilate; the sun is placed where it stood then. The people are photographic cut-outs made with an image model from written descriptions drawn from the sources; their faces and names are invented.

בית המקדש
The Second Beis HaMikdash

Climb from the Shiloach pool up the pilgrims' road, through the Chulda gates, across Har HaBayis and into the courts, as a pilgrim would on a morning of Sukkos.

Drag to look around. Tap the blue arrows on the ground, or a place in the list, to walk.
